Ortitay Resolution to Recognize Sarrises Passes House
October 23, 2026
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives this week approved a resolution authored by Rep. Jason Ortitay (R Washington/Allegheny) to declare Nov. 8, 2026, as “Frank and Athena Sarris Day” in Pennsylvania.
“When hearing the Sarris name, the first thought that comes to most people’s minds is candy,” Ortitay said. “Frank and Athena Sarris, though, have made extraordinary and lasting contributions to our community. Their generosity and unwavering support of many causes, including the Frank Sarris Public Library, is unmatched. Their commitment to education, literacy and lifelong learning have made the library the place to go for learning and gathering.”
House Resolution 641 details the Sarrises’ philanthropic efforts that have benefited the library for years and serves the residents of Canonsburg Borough and North Strabane and Cecil townships. This includes the numerous and varied year-round learning experiences, programs, resources and services sponsored by the library through the Sarrises generosity.
The 46th Legislative District includes South Fayette Township and McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Cecil, Chartiers, Mt. Pleasant and North Strabane (Districts 6,7,8 and 9) townships and Canonsburg, Houston and McDonald boroughs in Washington County.
