BRIDGEVILLE — As a free service to the community, Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) will be holding a shredding event on Saturday, July 8, at the Canonsburg VFW Post 191 to give residents of the 46th Legislative District a chance to safeguard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.

The event will be held from 9-11 a.m. at 539 W. Pike St., Canonsburg.

“Identity theft remains a significant issue,” Ortitay said. “People should take every step available to reduce their risk of becoming a victim. One way is by properly destroying documents with sensitive information. I hope if you are available, you will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Acceptable items include all paper documents. No more than three brown paper grocery bags or open small cardboard boxes per household are permitted, and no businesses, please. In addition, no large binder clips or hardbound covers will be accepted. Materials more than 1 inch thick will need to be broken down.

For more information, contact Ortitay’s district office at 412-221-5110.

The 46th Legislative District includes South Fayette Township and McDonald and Oakdale boroughs in Allegheny County. It also encompasses Cecil, Chartiers, Mt. Pleasant and North Strabane (Districts 6,7,8 and 9) townships and Canonsburg, Houston and McDonald boroughs in Washington County.
